Child's Story:
When I arrived to care for my daughter, my 3 yr old granddaughter was still not sleeping through the night. She would wake up screaming. She complained daily, and especially nightly of tummy aches. Her stomach was rock hard and distended. She would burst into violent screams at random times, particularly on car rides. She would "tantrum for as long as two hours at a time. She never sat quietly to play, but always seemed to churn and run from toy to toy without ever being able to settle on anything. This was not new. She had been this way from infancy. She has a list of specialists who failed to help her.
The crisis occurred after a month when we had to stay in a motel for four nights due to remodeling in the house. She screamed day and night the entire time. At that point we decided to take her to Dr. Hegel. After the first visit, she came home and laid down on the sofa and slept for three hours. After another visit she fell asleep on the sofa at 6 PM and slept all night. This may seem normal to others, but this baby had never slept longer that 45 minutes in her entire life. She now plays quietly by herself, arranges and organizes her toys, rides happily in the car, goes to sleep after her bedtime routine without a tear or conflict. Her stools changed from runny green to normal solid for the first time in her life. The list of changes goes on and on. Her remarkable change has literally saved the sanity of the entire family.
Her new baby brother had his first visit at 1 week.
